YouTube TV offering customers $20 credit as it appears Monday Night Football won't be available

If you're a YouTube TV customer, you likely won't be able to watch the Eagles face off with the Green Bay Packers tomorrow on Monday Night Football.

As a consolation, YouTube TV announced Sunday that they are preparing to offer their estimated 10+ million customers a redeemable $20 credit. Here are the details, via Awful Announcing's Drew Lerner

In an email sent to subscribers, YouTube TV said, “Over the next few days, you will receive a follow-up email with instructions on how to redeem your $20 credit for YouTube TV. Once redeemed, this will be applied to your next bill.”

To be clear, this isn't a $20 refund, but rather a $20 credit. It's also something you won't receive unless you go through the process set to be outlined in the forthcoming follow-up email. It's kind of a half-assed way to keep customers from ditching the service, which many have fled to as a cheaper alternative to cable since it launched in 2017.

Disney removed all of their channels — which include ESPN and ABC, where Monday Night Football airs — from the YouTube TV lineup on Oct. 30 as part of a contractual dispute.

ABC was temporarily restored this past Tuesday for election night, but no such decision was made for last week's Monday Night Football matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. Even though Eagles-Packers has more playoff implications, there's no reason to believe Disney will make any sort of concession to allow the game to air on YouTube TV

On Friday, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported that Disney and YouTube TV remained "far apart" on trying to reach a deal to restore the channels.

Perhaps an 11th hour solution will be reached between the two sides, but that doesn't seem likely. If you're a YouTube TV customer that doesn't want to pay for another service, your best bet to watch tomorrow's game might be to go to a bar, a friend's house or get an antenna.
