Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy joined local, state, and federal law enforcement leaders in announcing a major breakthrough in the fight against fentanyl trafficking.

The coordinated operation resulted in the seizure of more than 26.7 million doses of fentanyl across the greater Philadelphia area.

The announcement came during a press conference on Oct. 29, 2025, where Chief Molloy appeared alongside Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, and other regional partners. Together, they detailed the collaborative work that led to one of the largest fentanyl seizures in the region’s history, a success that underscores law enforcement’s united front against the ongoing opioid crisis.

Chief Molloy praised Commissioner Bethel and his leadership team for their unwavering commitment to reducing violent crime and dismantling drug trafficking networks, particularly in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood, an area deeply affected by the opioid epidemic.

“Their efforts not only bring those responsible for distributing this deadly substance to justice,” Chief Molloy said, “but also help improve the quality of life for residents who have suffered from these conditions for far too long.”

Reflecting on the partnership between city and suburban law enforcement, Chief Molloy emphasized the importance of regional collaboration. “As suburban police chiefs, we often say we’re ‘too big to be small and too small to be big,’” he noted. “But the reality is that none of us can tackle this crisis alone. We can’t simply arrest our way out of it — we must also focus on treatment and prevention.”

Chief Molloy reaffirmed his department’s commitment to targeting drug traffickers while supporting access to treatment and recovery services for individuals struggling with addiction.

He also took the opportunity to recognize the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers across the region. “Our officers and investigators risk their safety every day to pursue violent drug traffickers,” he said. “Their courage and professionalism are saving lives, and I could not be prouder to serve alongside them."

The Chief concluded by noting that the fentanyl crisis remains one of the greatest challenges facing communities today — but through partnership, persistence, and compassion, law enforcement agencies are making a meaningful difference.

“Every success in this fight brings us one step closer to saving lives,” Chief Molloy said. “That’s why we’ll continue working together to protect our communities and stop this poison from spreading.”
