The Legacy Park Community Board, in partnership with the Jenkintown School District, Borough, School Board, and various community groups, has announced significant updates regarding the planned transformation of Legacy Park.

While early discussions have largely centered around replacing the iconic “castle” playground, the scope of this initiative extends far beyond a single play structure.

Comprehensive Plan for Legacy Park

According to newly released schematic plans, the redevelopment encompasses the entire area behind the elementary school, not just the current playground site. This ambitious project is designed to modernize and enhance the space, ensuring it meets both present and future community needs. Key features include:

  • Installation of new electrical conduit and lighting infrastructure
  • Regrading of the land to improve visibility, site flow, accessibility, and stormwater drainage
  • Implementation of a robust water management system for long-term sustainability
  • Enhanced safety through updated fencing and surveillance cameras
  • Expanded pedestrian pathways for improved accessibility
  • Durable and sustainable hardscaping and landscaping
  • A new community pavilion designed for events, gatherings, and shaded recreation
  • Installation of inclusive, state-of-the-art playground equipment

Budget and Timeline

Project leaders are mindful of the community’s interest in budget transparency. While the project is large in both scope and scale, exact budget figures will remain preliminary until a full site assessment is completed.

The results of ongoing feasibility studies and civil engineering evaluations, expected by August 2025, will ultimately determine the timeline and final cost projections. Project leaders emphasize that a comprehensive understanding of the site's physical, environmental, and structural needs is critical before finalizing any figures.

Donations

To streamline fundraising efforts and improve communication with supporters, the Legacy Park team has transitioned from Venmo to Zeffy, a secure and user-friendly donation platform. Zeffy allows donors to contribute via credit card or Apple Pay and will be featured at both online and in-person events. Community members are encouraged to create an account for faster future transactions and real-time project updates.

Upcoming Events

The community is invited to participate in a series of upcoming events designed to raise awareness and support for the Legacy Park initiative:

Battle of the Bands – June 24

Held in collaboration with the Summer Music Series, this lively competition will feature local bands, great food, and opportunities to support the park's future.
