Jordan Simmons, 29, of the 1600 block of Summit Avenue in Willow Grove, is facing a felony charge stemming from a traffic stop in Elkins Park, according to police.

A police officer from Cheltenham Police Department was on patrol in the area of Williams Way and John C. Russell Circle on May 22. According to police, a strong odor of marijuana was present after a silver Nissan sedan passed the officer on the road.

The Nissan made a right had turn on to Humphrey Merry Way and then another turn onto Penrose Avenue. As the officer continued to follow the vehicle, the odor of marijuana was constant, according to police.

The police officer turned on his sirens and lights, but the Nissan driver ignored the officer’s attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, after a second attempt by the police officer to alert the driver to pull over, eventually stopped his vehicle in the middle of Erlern Road, according to police.

The driver, later identified as Simmons, told the officer that he lived on that street and attempted to park his vehicle. The police officer demanded him to put the car in park.

According to police, the Nissan’s sunroof was open, which the police officer found odd considering it had been raining on and off all day. According to police, the officer believed this was an attempt to conceal the smell of marijuana.

Simmons failed to provide the officer with a driver’s license and said he left his wallet at home, according to police. After the police officer observed many blunt roaches in the cup holder, the police officer requested that Simmons exit the vehicle for a search.

The search revealed:

  • 36 pills marked “K9,” which were found to be Oxycodone (30mg)
  • 40 plastic bags consistent with narcotic packaging:
    • 21 of the bags were marked “Rainbow Cake”
    • 11 bags with “Super Hentai Cherry Poppers
    • 5 clear breast milk bags with marijuana residue
    • 1 “Cherry Crème Bombom” with a black and red coloring
    • 1 “Fanta” bag with a green colored label
    • 1 “Liquid Shatter” with a multi-color design

Officers detained Simmons, and further investigation revealed an active warrant for arrest from Cheltenham. A search of the trunk revealed a one gallon mason jar containing marijuana residue, and a second prescription bottle labeled Oxycodone.

Simmons faces a felony charge of Manufacture, Deliver, Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
