SEPTA’s third-party contractor will continue concrete repair work on the abutment walls of the Keswick Avenue bridge as part of preparations for a rapid bridge superstructure replacement. The project will involve a 78-hour shutdown of Regional Rail service between Glenside and Jenkintown stations.
As part of the operation, the existing bridge over Keswick Avenue will be removed and transported to a nearby staging area, where it will be dismantled. A newly assembled bridge—constructed in advance at the same staging location—will then be transported and installed at the site.
Road Closures and Parking Restrictions
Keswick Avenue, between Mount Carmel Avenue and Paxson Avenue, will be closed until Friday, May 30. Detour routes will guide motorists to Mount Carmel Avenue, Easton Road, Glenside Avenue, and Waverly Road. Despite the closure, access to local businesses will remain open throughout the detour period.
Additionally, on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, there will be intermittent flagging and partial closures along Mount Carmel Avenue between Keswick Avenue and Houston Avenue. A “No Parking” restriction will also be in effect both days in this same area. Motorists are advised to look for posted signage.
Regional Rail Service Changes
To accommodate the bridge work, SEPTA will replace train service with shuttle buses between Glenside and Jenkintown stations over Memorial Day Weekend. The service interruption begins at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 23 and continues through the end of service on Monday, May 26.

Passengers traveling through the affected segment will transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Glenside and Jenkintown stations.
