The Abington Township Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on the Township’s Board of Code Appeals (BCA). This is an excellent opportunity for residents and business owners to contribute to community safety by supporting fair and well-informed building code decisions. While preference is given to Township residents, qualified applicants from outside the Township will also be considered.

The BCA operates in accordance with the Uniform Construction Code and Township Ordinance No. 2160 (Chapter 7), providing interpretations and rulings on code-related matters. Members are expected to bring professional expertise to ensure that code enforcement is consistent, reasonable, and in the best interest of the public.

To qualify, applicants must be of full legal age and demonstrate professional experience in one of the following areas:

  1. Registered design professional with architectural experience or a builder or Superintendent of building construction with not fewer than 10 years of experience, 5 of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
  2. Registered design professional with structural engineering experience.
  3. Registered design professional with mechanical and plumbing engineering experience or a mechanical contractor with not fewer than 10 years of experience, 5 of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
  4. Registered design professional with electrical engineering experience or an electrical contractor with not fewer than 10 years of experience, 5 of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.
  5. Registered design professional with fire protection engineering experience or a fire protection contractor with not fewer than 10 years of experience. 5 of which shall have been in responsible charge of work.

Full details of the BCA’s responsibilities and Ordinance No. 2160 can be found at www.abingtonpa.gov/BCCC, or by contacting Theresa Castorina at 267-536-1003.
