Jenkintown Borough has announced that the milling and paving of York Road is scheduled to occur next week.
This restoration project, following the recent installation of a new gas main, will be conducted by PECO’s contractor, Kehoe Construction, Inc.
The work is scheduled from Monday, May 12, through Thursday, May 15, with construction taking place overnight between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. This schedule, set by PennDOT, is intended to minimize disruptions and reduce the impact on daytime traffic.
The project involves milling the existing surface and repaving the roadway to restore it to proper condition. Weather permitting, the contractor aims to complete all work within the scheduled four-night period. Due to the nature of the work, lane closures will be necessary, which may result in traffic delays during the construction hours. Travelers are encouraged to consider alternate routes during this time to avoid possible congestion and disruptions.
Traffic control during the paving operation is mandated and overseen by PennDOT, as York Road is a State Road. PennDOT will also be conducting inspections throughout the process to ensure the work meets state standards. In coordination with the Borough, Kehoe Construction has arranged for a Police presence to be maintained during the paving hours to ensure safety and manage traffic.
Once the paving is complete, all roadway markings, including thermoplastic striping and traffic symbols, will be restored. Additionally, any pre-existing traffic calming features, such as speed humps or road narrowing elements, will also be reinstalled to maintain safety and traffic flow consistency. The Borough appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation during this necessary infrastructure improvement.
