The Abington Police Department uncovered a loaded revolver weapon from a backpack during a search, according to police.

On Wednesday, May 7, police officers were conducting drone training at the McKinley Fire Station when they observed two individuals rolling suspected marijuana and manipulating items inside a backpack.

After observing the two individuals, an Abington police officer conducted a pedestrian stop, however, the subjects were uncooperative, according to police.

A search of the backpack revealed a loaded revolver, which was later confirmed to be stolen out of Philadelphia. Two individuals were taken into custody after a brief struggle, according to police. A third person who interfered with the investigation was also detained.

Officers from neighboring departments assisted in detaining the subjects due to the subjects resisting the officers who originally stopped them.

“The incident was safely resolved without injuries,” Abington Police Department said. “We thank all assisting departments for their support in maintaining community safety.”
