Jumaane Wright, 28, of the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham Township, was fatally shot by police in Brooklyn on April 29 after officials caught him driving a stolen Porsche, according to a report.

According to police, Wright almost crashed into police officers who were attempting to apprehend him.

According to NYPD Chief of Department John Chell, members of the department’s Community Response Team spotted the car with “suspicious plates” around 8 p.m. Upon investigation, officers discovered the Porsche had been stolen from Pennsylvania.

Wright began speeding in a different direction once police officers attempted to pull him over. Officers radioed to other patrol officers at a different location to try and set up a roadblock, but could not catch him, according to reports.

When the driver veered toward one of the officers and nearly hit him, the officer fired a single shot that struck the driver, according to Chell.

First responders took the driver to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died, according to the chief of department.
