The Cheltenham School District has proposed a significant expansion project at Glenside Elementary School, 400 Harrison Avenue, aiming to accommodate the growing student population and enhance learning spaces.

The plan includes constructing three new building additions, totaling 7,773 square feet, which would provide more classroom space, updated facilities, and improved accessibility for students and staff.

In addition to constructing three building additions, the application for the project also proposes relocated parking spaces, a bituminous playground area, several walkway improvements, and stormwater management facilities at Glenside Elementary School. In order to do so, Cheltenham proposes to demolishing the existing parking areas and other invulnerable surfaces.

The plan was discussed at the Jenkintown School Board Meeting in late February.

The district has been facing capacity challenges at Glenside Elementary due to increasing enrollment and the need for modernized learning environments. The proposed additions are designed to address these concerns while also aligning with the district’s long-term infrastructure goals.

The district has scheduled public meetings to gather feedback from families and local residents. Potential dates for public review and comment on the development proposal include:

  • March 19, 2025, at 7:30 pm - Board of Commissioners (BOC) (by web conference/in-person)
  • March 24, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. – Planning Commission (web conference)

According to Cheltenham Township, the Board of Commissioners has a statutory deadline of May 23, 2025, to act on the plan.

Renderings for the project can be found in the school district's Preliminary Land Development Plans
