Jordan Jones, 31, was sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in jail on charges of institutional sexual assault and attempted institutional sexual assault in connection with his inappropriate contact with two teenage girls while he served as an Abington Township police officer and school resource officer between 2023 and 2024, according to The Mercury.
The victims and their parents addressed Jones in court and made statements.
“You should’ve never crossed that line," said one victim who was 17 when Jones had sexual contact with her on more than five occasions. "You’re the one that knew better. My biggest regret was meeting you. I wish I never went up to the cop in my school last year to make small talk…I looked up to you and respected you because of your title. You knew I was struggling and you took advantage of that when you should’ve been an adult caring for me and not taking advantage because I was going through something. You ruined both of our lives.”
The mother of the second victim testified that schools should be safe sanctuaries for their children, and Jones broke that trust.
“As a member of the police force and with the extra special title of school resource officer, he had the power to influence and shape young minds and the students looked to him as an example of who to be, of how to be,” the girl’s mother said. “Never in my worst nightmares could I have imagined that school would be the place where my child would be targeted by someone who had the privilege and responsibility of keeping her safe.”
Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Margot Weitz added, “This case was unique in that the defendant’s actions didn’t just impact the victims, but also the entire community because the defendant was a police officer and a school resource officer where his job was to protect kids. He lost the trust of the entire community of Abington High School and of the police department and of the public. His actions were a disgrace and had an effect on the entire community.”
