McKinley Elementary School recently received a big boost.

Sen. Art Haywood (Senate District 4) presented a $1.5 million check to the Abington school as part of the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

McKinley was awarded the money to implement energy savings projects and renovations, including facilities repairs and upgrades.

While exact details are scarce of exactly how the elementary school will use the funds, the program in general aims to ensure that school buildings are safe, modern, and equipped to support student learning effectively.

Grants from this program can be used for a variety of facility improvements, including repairs, renovations, and new construction projects. Eligible projects may focus on enhancing safety and security, upgrading HVAC and plumbing systems, improving energy efficiency, or addressing accessibility concerns. The funding helps school districts make necessary improvements without placing the entire financial burden on local taxpayers.

By investing in school infrastructure, the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program supports a better learning environment for students and teachers, promoting long-term educational success across Pennsylvania. School districts interested in applying must meet specific eligibility requirements and submit a detailed proposal outlining their project plans and expected impact.
