Amiri Johnson, 52, of the 600 block of Selma Street in Norristown, faces a felony charge stemming from an incident at a Cheltenham Township home.

On Friday, June 13, police officers from the Cheltenham Police Department were dispatched to a home on the 1100 block of Coventry Street for a report of a laceration.

Upon arrival, while police officers and EMS walked into the basement of the home to assist the male, numerous firearms and firearm accessories were observed, such as live rounds and a 15-round magazine to be used in a semi-automatic Glock, according to police.

The male, later identified as Johnson, was transported to Abington Hospital after officers observed an injury to his leg. Upon arrival at the hospital, medical staff informed police that a bullet was ledged in Johnson’s leg and the medical staff was working to remove it from his body.

Police later returned to the home to conduct a search, where “substantial amounts of blood” were observed in multiple rooms, according to police. There were also multiple holes discovered in the home, which were consistent with projectile strikes from a firearm, according to police.

While searching the home, police found multiple firearms, ammunition, and magazines from the property, according to police. A black bag was also found that contained the following:

  • Silver Ruger Super Red Hawk revolver loaded with five live rounds, and one spent round that was lodged in the cylinder.
  • Four 454 cal. fired cartridge casings (FCCs)
  • Black Polymer80 9mm handgun with no serial number
  • Dozens of live ammunitions
  • Black extended magazine containing 24 live .40 cal. Rounds
  • Black 9mm magazine containing 13 live 9mm rounds. The exterior of the magazine had noticeable blood on it
  • Charter Arms “The Pink Lady” .380 Special revolver, which appeared to be loaded

According to police documents, Johnson had an active warrant out of Philadelphia regarding a Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA), which makes Johnson a convicted felon, thus making it illegal to carry a firearm. Johnson was charged with a felony of Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell, or Transfer Firearms.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
