The fire at SPS Technologies in February has left lasting effects on the community, especially those who live closest to the former warehouse.
Countless number of people helped and assisted that night, as well as continuing efforts in the months that followed. Numerous fire departments, EMS, and first responders all helped out in a dangerous situation.
Now, to thank those people for their efforts, the Weldon Fire Company is hosting an honorary celebration, awards ceremony, and cookout for all fire departments, EMS, and first responders ahead of the Glenside Parade.
"They saved our town from what could have been an unimaginable tragedy," wrote the Weldon Fire Company. "These brave men and women acted selflessly and without fail to ensure our safety, and exemplified true teamwork and dedication. What’s more, they are constant safeguards for our communities every day. This July 4th we will have the opportunity to give them a proper thank you."
Glenside Parade
The day kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with the Children's Morning Program at Renninger Memorial Park. This fun-filled event is ideal for families and will feature a variety of activities for kids, along with the drawing of the quilt raffle winner.
Later in the day, at 4:00 p.m., the community will come together for the Grand, Glorious, Patriotic Parade, which marches along a 1.5-mile route through the heart of Glenside.
Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to grab a good viewing spot and enjoy the vibrant display of local pride and creativity.
As the sun sets, the celebration continues with the America the Beautiful Aerial Fireworks Spectacular, lighting up the night sky over Abington Junior and Senior High Schools.
