The Montgomery County Food Policy Council is launching the County’s first Agventure—a new initiative designed to connect community members with local agriculture through a fun, interactive experience. Participants will complete bingo-style cards by visiting farms, farmers markets, picking produce, or trying farm-to-table meals. Each completed row earns points towards winning a prize such as a coffee mug, lunch container, or cooler bag.
“Montgomery County has more than 550 farms–and 194 of them are permanently preserved thanks to our County’s farmland preservation program. Now with the launch of the Agventure Farm Bingo Challenge, we’re inviting people to explore and engage with our local agriculture in an exciting new way,” said Neil Makhija, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “The challenge encourages people to support our diverse local farms, make healthy, sustainable choices, and experience all that Montgomery County’s agricultural landscape has to offer.”
“I am excited to have some Montco Agventures with my family–whether it’s farm-made ice cream, trying fresh produce from a stand or market, or picking apples. This is a fun way for kids and families to connect with food and agriculture, and potentially earn some prizes,” said Jamila H. Winder, Montgomery County Commissioner. “It’s also a great opportunity to discover new places and support our local food system, while building strong connections between the community and the hardworking farmers who keep our farmlands thriving.”
“We have a strong farming tradition in Montgomery County and a local food economy that plays an important role in supporting our community and our local businesses,” said Thomas DiBello, Montgomery County Commissioner. “The Agventure Challenge brings more awareness and support to the local farms that provide fresh, quality produce and help drive the local economy.”
To participate in the Agventure challenge, visit the Agventure webpage and download a bingo card, or find one at a Montgomery County public library, your nearest state legislator’s office, or a Montgomery County farmers market.
Complete the activities on the card at your own pace and upload pictures of your “agventures.”
Agventure is currently open and will run until Nov. 30.
