Joseph Marmolejos, 20, of the Bronx, N.Y., faces a felony charge of forgery after trying to cash a fraudulent check at a TD Bank in Abington Township, according to police.
Officers from the Abington Police Department were dispatched to the TD Bank located at 710 Old York Road on May 27 at 2:48 p.m. after an employee at the bank contacted police to report that a male in the bank attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
Several units responded to the scene where the male, later identified as Marmolejos, was still in the branch.
According to police, Marmolejos presented a check in the amount of $4,800, which appeared to be written from a TD Bank checking account held by a customer in Eagleville, Pa.
The teller, according to police, said that the check appeared unusual compared to other TD Bank checks. The border and background colors were slightly off and the printing was incorrect, according to police.
The teller then contacted the customer using the number linked to the account. The customer confirmed that the check was fraudulent. It was not drawn from their account, the customer does not know Marmolejos and they did not write the check.
Marmolejos was cooperative and was handcuffed and detained by police officers.
