Police in Abington Township are urging the community to remain vigilant after an incident they believe involved an organized criminal group targeting an Asian business owner.
In a statement shared on social media, officials suggested that this case may be part of a growing national trend. According to police, on Monday, July 7, a township resident returned home to find a robbery in progress. Although authorities did not disclose the specific location of the home, they confirmed that the homeowner’s arrival interrupted the crime, causing the suspects to flee.
Investigators later determined that the home had been deliberately targeted because the residents are Asian and operate a business in the area. Police explained that this type of targeting aligns with a broader national pattern, in which organized criminal groups prey on Asian business owners based on the harmful stereotype that they store high-value items in their homes.
These groups are reportedly known to conduct surveillance on businesses to learn the routines and home addresses of their owners. Abington Township police stated they are collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents and advised residents to report any suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1.
While no further information was provided about the suspects or the break-in itself, authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
