A Philadelphia man admitted that he illegally possessed a gun while driving his car in the Willow Grove section of Abington Township.

Devon Aloysius Carroll, 36, of the 3300 block of North 22nd Street, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to felony charges of carrying a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s number. Both incidents stem from a June 2023 traffic stop while he was traveling in the township.

Judge William R. Carpenter deferred sentencing so that court officials can complete a background investigation report about Carroll, who will undergo drug, alcohol and mental health evaluations.

Carroll currently remains free on bail and faces a possible maximum sentence of 8½ to 17 years in prison on the charges.

Abington Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Old Welsh and Easton roads, where they its countered a 2018 Dodge Challenger sedan traveling southbound on Easton Road after observing “that the registration plate on the rear of the vehicle was covered by a plastic tinted plate cover,” according to a criminal complaint.
