Markeeta Monroe, 36, of the 1600 block of North 22nd Street in Philadelphia, has been charged with three felony counts related to planned construction work at a Willow Grove Church, according to police.
Monroe has been charged by the Abington Police Department with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, Theft by Deception and Receiving Stolen Property.
In April 2024, Monroe agreed with a member of the Faith Fellowship Church, 1666 Easton Road, to replace and install a new shed, as well as perform additional work on the kitchen floor, said a police criminal complaint. The victim sent payments to Monroe totaling $2,100 through Cash App as part of an installment agreement, according to police.
According to police, Monroe brought a crew out later that month to tear up the existing shed foundation and began demolishing the existing kitchen floor. The work then stopped, police said. The victim reached out to Monroe several times in May 2024, but Monroe never responded, according to the complaint.
An initial complaint was filed in July 2024. Police made several attempts to contact Monroe to advise her to return the money. As of Dec. 29, 2024, Monroe has not returned any of the funds, police said.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
