Several new clubs were approved, including:

  • Girls On the Run Club: focus on confidence, competence, care, connection and character to strengthen emotional and physical health, supporting participants in boldly pursuing their dreams.

  • Buddy Reading Club: 5th and 6th graders will be partnered with 1st and 2nd graders in a buddy/mentorship program. Older buddies will read to the younger buddy for the first half of each session. The buddy pairs will select a book together that may last more than one session. The second half of each session will be dedicated to building relationship activities such as playing games together, SEL activities, and group conversations. The purpose of this club is to support younger students academically as they develop their reading skills as well as SEL learning. The benefit for the older students is to develop responsibility and to encourage relationship building as well. The program lasts eight weeks and meets every Wednesday.

  • Elementary Book Club: The club will meet to select a book which they will: read together some days; read on their own time then discuss during the club meeting time; analyze the literature by thinking critically about character and plot development as well as possible connections to participants’ daily lives.

  • Introduction to Technology Club: The purpose of this club is to teach students about technology. Specific topics will include: how to build a Google site; how to create a website including adding videos, pictures and design o How to create a toolbar. Students will use the Chromebook that was assigned to each student by the district.
