Residents living in Jenkintown Borough will not have their tax bill increased this year.
The Jenkintown Borough Council voted to approve its 2025 budget at its December 2024 meeting.
There is an increase in the sewer rental fees, which was originally approved in 2023, but was never implemented last year, according to township officials.
Township officials indicated that there was no need for a tax increase due to holding borough expenses to a 0.48 percent increase over those budgeted expenses from last year, according to Township Manager George Locke.
As part of this year’s budget, funds are earmarked for upgrading of equipment, preservation of public property, replacing police department vehicles, new upgrades to Borough Hall, Financial and Code software, IT technology, training, staffing, and even benefit and wage increases.
The complete budget can be found here.
The township is eliminating two police officer positions, though officials said this will not decrease services to its residents.
“As supported by two separate independent studies there will be a reduction in PD staffing in 2025,” Locke said. “Due to a retirement announced effective February 2025, there will be a two-position reduction in PD staff in the budget.
“I would like to thank the Department Heads, Borough Councilors and the Public that attended the public meetings and worked so hard to make this process a success,” he added.
