The Phillies acquired minor league outfielder Dylan Campbell from the Dodgers on Friday. In exchange, the Phillies sent international bonus pool money to L.A.
According to sources, the Dodgers gained between $750,000 and $1M in international bonus pool money as part of the trade that sent Dylan Campbell to the Phillies.@kileymcd was the first to report the trade.
It is much more fun to be on the Dodgers' end of this deal. After bulking up the amount of money they could offer pitcher pitcher Roki Sasaki in the international free agent market, L.A. signed the Japanese superstar the same day.
Source: Roki Sasaki will get $6.5M from the Dodgers.
But Campbell, 22, is an interesting prospect. Selected out of the University of Texas with the 136th overall pick in the 2023 draft, the right-handed bat slashed .251/.331./.372 (.703 OPS) in 2024 for the high-A Great Lakes Loons, with ten home runs and 42 stolen bases. Campbell is listed at 5'11" and 205 lbs., and MLB.com ranked him as the 27th-best prospect in the Phillies organization after the trade.

Here's what the website has to say in its evaluation of Campbell:
"Entering pro ball, Campbell had a reputation for spraying line drives all around the field. He backed that up in his first full year, recording a 24.3 percent line-drive rate, seventh among all qualified full-season Dodgers Minor Leaguers. But his first taste of High-A also brought on an increased K rate, as he whiffed 110 times (22.3 percent). Not known as a significant power threat (although he hit six homers in a 15-game stretch during August), Campbell has traditionally made good swing decisions, leading evaluators to believe he’s well suited to making adjustments as he moves up an organizational ladder.
"Campbell’s defensive metrics leap off the page, buoyed by his plus throwing arm. He made 60.6 percent of his outfield starts in 2024 in right field, a seamless fit for his cannon as he notched 11 assists on the grass in total. His range receives a boost from his wheels, which also helped carry him to 42 steals on 49 attempts. If Campbell can cut down on some of the early swing-and-miss concerns, there’s a look of speedy big league fourth outfielder to his game."
And here's Baseball America's evaluation ($) at the time of the 2023 draft:
"Campbell was tied with Peyton Powell for the top hitter with Texas in 2023, and produced an excellent .335/.433/.599 slash line with 13 home runs, 19 doubles, a 14.6% strikeout rate, 13.2% walk rate and added 26 steals for good measure. Listed at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, Campbell has a smaller and filled-out frame that lacks much future projection, but he has solid arm strength, speed and production that could make him a late day two or early day three selection. Campbell has a pull-heavy offensive approach and he tends to sell out early in his swing to the pull side, which could leave him exposed on the outer third against professional pitching. He has just fringy power and most of that has gone to the pull side during games. He’s played both left field and right field, but was the team’s everyday right fielder in 2023, and has the above-average arm strength that teams like for the position."
Campbell also played football in high school, racking up 1,569 yards and 21 touchdowns as a running back.
