Desmond Malik Williams, 27, of Philadelphia, was sentenced in Montgomery County court to 11½ to 23 months in prison following a traffic stop in Abington Township in February 2024. The stop uncovered an illegally possessed semiautomatic handgun, according to The Reporter. The sentence includes 23 months of probation after serving his sentence.
Williams pleaded guilty to charges of carrying a firearm without a license and prohibited offensive weapon.
Judge Wendy G. Rothstein, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, ordered that the 9mm handgun that was seized from Williams during the investigation be forfeited to the district attorney’s office for destruction.
Williams was stopped in the 1400 block of Old York Road, where officers found the loaded gun with 18 rounds of ammunition in an extended magazine and one round in the chamber of a second magazine loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition, according to police.
“The vehicle’s side, rear and front windshield were tinted so dark that I was unable to see into the interior of the vehicle at all,” Abington Police Officer Daniel Burgmann alleged in the criminal complaint.
“Williams does not have a concealed carry license,” Burgmann alleged.
