Federal Donuts & Chicken continued its venture into the suburbs with its grand opening in Willow Grove. The store, located at 4021 Welsh Road, officially opened to the public on Jan. 10.
The company celebrated the launch of the new location by giving out goodies. The first 100 customers all received complementary t-shirts, and all customers who stopped by that day received a cup of mini donuts.
"Willow Grove, you showed UP!" the donut store wrote on its Instagram page. "Huge thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to celebrate our Grand Opening— you made it truly unforgettable!"

“So far it’s been a nice, warm reception,” said Area Manger Tim Castrantas. “People are excited that we are here. The foot traffic has been great.”
Federal Donuts & Chicken conducted a soft opening two weeks prior to officially opening its doors. There was no marketing or buzz created. The company just opened its doors to see the results.
“We were pretty busy during that time,” Castrantas said. “The grand opening was insanely busy.”
The Willow Grove location marks the second location that opened in the suburbs. A Radnor location opened a few months ago, and the company plans to add more suburban locations in the upcoming year.
Before opening a brick-and-mortar store, the company tested its popularity in the suburbs with food trucks. The success of those food trucks spurred the idea to open a store in this area.
“We’ve done some market testing with our food trucks in the suburbs and it’s done extremely well,” Castrantas said. “It’s something that we’ve been trying to do for years. We opened our first suburban store in Radnor a couple months ago.”
This location has table seating and stools available for up to 12 people. It will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aside from its signature donuts and treats, the store also offers a coffee/espresso menu from La Colombe, breakfast sandwiches, hash browns, and more.
Federal Donuts & Chicken is owned by Michael Solomonov, multiple James Beard Foundation Award–winning chef, who also owns Zahav.
