Multiple first-responder units have been dispatched to an Abington Township address for the report of a house fire.
According to county dispatch, calls were received around 9:17 p.m. in the 1500 block of St. James Place in Abington. Callers said that they were in the process of evacuating the home, and everyone had gotten out of the house safely, according to early reports.
Those at the scene said that the fire may have started in a downstairs dryer. One side of the home is visually showing smoke, those that were first to arrive said.
Much of the fire damage appears to be in the lower levels of the two-story, single-family home, said those at the scene. Debris was being thrown from the lower level of the home, through broken windows, by the first responders fighting the fire.
Responding to the fire are units from Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, Jenkintown Fire Department, Rosyln Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, Weldon Fire Company, Fort Washington Fire Company, Barren Hill Fire Company, Upper Moreland Township Fire Department, and Abington Fire Company, among other first responding units.
Many of the same first responders also began the day fighting a house fire in Jenkintown Borough, which was called into dispatch around 7:17 a.m.
