First responders put out a house fire in Jenkintown Borough on Monday morning, with multiple companies assisting at the scene.
On Jan. 13 at 7:17 a.m., the Jenkintown Police, Jenkintown Fire Department and fire companies from Abington, Cheltenham, and Rockledge were dispatched to the 200 block of Hillside Avenue in Jenkintown.
“The first arriving personnel found the rear porch of the residence was on fire,” said Jenkintown Police Department Chief Thomas M. Scott in a release to the press. “Jenkintown Police Officers were able to evacuate the one resident and several pets from the residence. The fire department personnel were able to extinguish the fire quickly and contained most of the damage to the rear porch area of the residence.”
Responding to the fire were units from Abington Volunteer Fire Company, Glenside Fire Co. No. 1, Edge Hill Fire Company, LaMott Fire Company, McKinley, Rockledge, Roslyn, and Weldon fire companies, in addition to Second Alarmers Rescue Squad among other first responders. No injuries were reported, however Scott said that the home’s occupant was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital for evaluation.
Jenkintown’s Fire Marshall will investigate the cause of the fire.
