According to county dispatch, calls were received around 8:11 a.m. for the need of emergency personnel at North York Road at Crown Street in Upper Moreland Township on Wednesday, Jan. 1. According to witnesses, wires are down and “possibly sparking” in the area due to the accident.
Early reports noted that one woman was out of her vehicle, holding pressure to a head wound. Another involved driver may have been ejected from the car. Rescuers are on scene now to assist in the matter.
Responding to the scene are units from the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, the Upper Moreland Police Department, and Horsham Fire Company, among other first responders.
Traffic from Fairhill Street to Summit Avenue along North York Road are closed at this time, with fire police directing vehicles around the accident. Closures are likely to be extended, due to the downed power lines, authorities have said. PECO will be required to repair the lines before the roadways can be reopened. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
