Tashif Zahmir Everett, 32, of the 6000 block of N. Carlisle Street in Philadelphia, faces a felony count related to an attempted burglary in the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham, according to police.
On Feb. 22, the Cheltenham Police Department responded to a call of a homeowner hearing noises of someone attempting to enter the complainant’s home on the 500 block of Spring Avenue. The complainant told police that while he and his wife were watching television, they heard their screen door open, and then heard someone attempting to open the entry door that enters into their kitchen, according to the affidavit.
The complainant then got up and looked out the closest window that faces directly at his door, at which point he saw a male wearing a black hat and a black puffer coat at the door, according to police.
According to the Affidavit, the man and his spouse became extremely fearful that this male would attempt to break into their home. The complainant states he went to the retrieve his firearm, then went onto his porch and saw the male standing between the bushes on the side of his house. The complainant then yelled at the male, which caused him to flee the area on foot towards the Elkins Park train station, according to police.
Police officers relayed the information to additional responding officers, who located the suspect at High School Road and Montgomery Avenue, according to police. The responding officer transported the complainant to that area to provide an eyewitness identification, which revealed his identity as Tashif Zahmir Everett, according to police.
Everett was placed under arrest for attempted burglary, and other charges, and transported to the Cheltenham Township Police Station, according to police.
