Abdul Payne, 21, of the 8400 block of Williams Ave. of Philadelphia, faces a felony count related to receiving stolen property, according to police.

The Abington Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Jan. 17 at Easton Road and Weldon Ave. in the Glenside section of Abington, according to police.

An officer observed a red Chevrolet stopped in the northbound lane of Easton Road disabled with its hood up, according to police, bearing Florida registration. Payne stated that the car may have overheated, according to police.

A NCIC check showed the vehicle was in current stolen status, out of Cherry Hill, N.J., according to police. The officer observed Payne to be in possession of key fob for the vehicle, which is consistent with being reprogrammed to operate the vehicle.

Payne was taken into custody for possession of stolen vehicle, according to police. Police contacted the vehicle’s owner and confirmed that Payne did not have permission to drive the car.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
