Vehicle crashes into building; one person rescued

Emergency crews responded to a vehicle crash involving a building in Abington over the weekend, according to reports.

At approximately 1:25 p.m Friday, the Abington Fire Company was dispatched to the Raymour & Flanigan store located at 939 Old York Road for a vehicle accident after a car struck the building. 

Upon arrival, Deputy 100 confirmed that the vehicle had collided with the structure, landed on its side, and that one occupant remained trapped inside.

According to reports, the driver suffered a stroke.

Firefighters from Abington Fire Company, assisted by Weldon Fire Company and McKinley Fire Company, worked together to safely extricate the occupant from the vehicle. The individual was then transported to a medical facility by the Second Alarmer’s Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County.

Crews remained on scene to assess the extent of damage to the building and to ensure the area was safe while the vehicle was removed.

The response was supported by the Abington Township Police Department and Lindley Towing, who assisted with scene safety and vehicle removal.

No additional information on the cause of the crash was immediately available.
