The U.S. Postal Service is telling customers to send their holiday mail and packages this week.

The U.S. Postal Service has issued recommended shipping deadlines for delivery before Christmas Day as the holiday is approaching.

The U.S. Postal Service also anticipates this week will be the busiest of the year after a steady increase in customer traffic at post office locations nationwide since the start of December.

To help ensure gifts and greetings arrive by Dec. 25, the U.S. Postal Service recommends the following domestic shipping deadlines for the contiguous U.S.:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 17: U.S. Postal Service Ground Advantage service and First-Class Mail
  • Thursday, Dec. 18: Priority Mail
  • Friday, Dec. 20: Priority Mail Express

According to the U.S. Postal Service, customers should be aware of changes to the holiday service schedule. Post Office locations across the country will be closed on Christmas Day (Thursday, Dec. 25) and New Year’s Day (Thursday, Jan. 1).

Regular mail delivery and standard Post Office hours will resume on the Fridays following each holiday.

The U.S. Postal Service said in a statement that service and hours of operation may vary by location, and customers should check with their local post office for operating times.
