Abington Township will hold two public hearings on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at 7 p.m. to review proposed amendments to local development and zoning rules involving nonconforming structures.
The hearings will take place at the Township Building at 1176 Old York Road, with virtual participation available via Zoom.
Subdivision & Land Development Amendment
The first proposed ordinance would amend Section 146-51 of the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance of 1991 to allow a waiver for certain partial restorations of nonconforming structures. Township officials say the change is intended to streamline minor restoration projects while maintaining appropriate oversight.
Zoning Ordinance Amendment
The second hearing focuses on updating Section 1904 of the Zoning Ordinance of 2017 to clarify how nonconforming buildings may be reconstructed after partial destruction, such as from a fire or other disaster. The amendment refines existing rules and provides clearer guidance for property owners seeking to rebuild.
