A man is facing multiple felony charges after attempting to break into a local business with a hammer, according to police.

Duquan Alleyne, 34, (no known address), has been charged with Burglary, Possession Instrument of Crime – Unlawful Body Armor, and other misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident on Old York Road.

On Aug. 14, around 9:45 p.m., police officers from Cheltenham Police Department were dispatched to 8010 Old York Road, which is the listed address of Chelten Hills Model Railroad Club, for a report of a suspicious male that was pulling boards off the back of the building. Police found the male in question, later identified as Alleyne, when they arrived on scene and took him into custody without incident.

According to police, Alleyne was wearing body armor. Alleyne told police officers that he was wearing body armor to protect himself because people were trying to kill him, according to police. Officers also discovered a debit card in the cargo pocket of Alleyne, which had a different name than the suspect’s legal name.

While searching the scene, police officers recovered a gray and yellow hatchet approximately 18 inches long laying by Alleyne’s bookbag, according to police. Police also recovered a gray and yellow hammer, which was located in the book bag as well. Police also found the board on the ground that the suspect allegedly broke off in an attempt to gain entry into the building.

Video footage of the incident was captured and shows the suspect with the hammer breaking the board off the window wearing the same exact clothing as when police came in contact with him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge R. Emmett Madden. Bail was set at $10,000.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
