\Nathanial Bing, 37, of the 900 block of S. 4th Street in Philadelphia, is facing a felony charge stemming from an incident during a traffic stop in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township, according to police

On Aug. 18, police officers from the Abington Police Department were on patrol in the area of Old York Road and Baeder Road when they stopped a vehicle for an expired registration.

Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and immediately detected a strong odor of marijuana. While speaking with the occupants, the rear passenger, later identified as Bing, appeared nervous, according to police.

Throughout the traffic stop, Bing avoided eye contact, keeping his head down pre-occupied with his phone, and avoided answering questions.

In the back seat there was a backpack between Bing’s legs. The owner of the vehicle consented to a vehicle search, and during that search, a mylar bag containing small amounts of marijuana were found at Bing’s feet, according to police.

In the black bag between Bing’s feet was a black Ruger P95 semi-automatic handgun. Bing admitted that the backpack belonged to him and he had knowledge that there was a firearm in the bag. Bing does not have a valid permit to carry a firearm, according to police.

Bing is being charged with Firearms Not to Be Carried Without a License.

Bing posted bail, which was set at $1,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Juanita A. Price.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
