Abington Township is currently seeking applicants for: 


Administrative Assistant ($20/hour)

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a variety of technical and administrative services that allows the Parks and Recreation Department to function well, and to provide residents, and visitors with quality public service.

Tasks include pleasantly greets and interacts with residents, customers and the public in person or by phone, processes phone calls for all related Parks and Recreation matters; answers routine questions. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from computers or other electronic devices, interacts with department employees, the public, governmental, and Township officials in a polite courteous and professional manner at all times; operates office equipment; other related duties as necessary to support the Township of Abington, administration and departments. Provides general clerical support while providing quality service to Township residents. Assisting Recreation Program Coordinator with field and facility rentals.


Community Service Officer ($18/hour)

The primary purpose of this position is to enforce municipal parking ordinances and regulations to promote public safety, traffic flow and compliance. CSO’s are uniformed but are not empowered to conduct any law enforcement duties. CSO’s serve as first contact with the public, answering questions and aiding as needed, particularly regarding parking-related issues. All work is completed in accordance with township ordinances, policies, procedures, practices, and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Assignments and technical supervision are received through the Community Policing Division Supervisor.

This person will be responsible for enforcement of parking and Township ordinances and issuing parking/fire lane/handicap tickets. Provide testimony at judicial hearings and trials when required. Complete daily activity reports; maintain department equipment; provide traffic control; assist with public relations; assist with school crossings when school crossing guards are not available; interact with members of the business community and the public. Attend meetings, mandatory training, and educational seminars; Collect money from parking kiosks; maintain and repair kiosks. Community Service Officers may be assigned by the Chief of Police to temporary or long-term special assignments in conjunction with or in lieu of, their regularly assigned duties. 


Control Room Guard ($14/hour)

The primary purpose of this position is to communicate effectively with patrons and staff, operate cash register and computer system, and assist patrons with Township Parks and Recreational areas, which allows the Parks and Recreation Department to provide residents and business owners quality service while complying with the ordinances and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All work is completed in accordance with township ordinances, policies, procedures, practices, and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Assignments and supervision is received through a Recreation Supervisor.

Tasks include: interacts pleasantly with residents, customers and the general public; Politely communicates and conveys information to visitors utilizing each facility. Politely communicates and conveys information to visitors utilizing each facility; responsible for keeping up-to-date information on all matters pertaining to the park; enforcing all existing policies and procedures, and to make recommendations to the supervisor concerning these policies and procedures. Must supply reports, verbally and in written form, on all criminal mischief, accidents, and violations of Township ordinance occurring within the park. At the start of each shift, must pass inspection by the on-duty Park Supervisor. Assist with other duties as required. Attends meetings and training as required.


Park Ranger ($18/hour)

The primary purpose of this position is to patrol the total acreage under the jurisdiction of Township Parks and Recreational areas, which allows the Parks and Recreation Department to provide residents and business owners quality service while complying with the ordinances and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. All work is completed in accordance with township ordinances, policies, procedures, practices, and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Assignments are received by the Park Ranger Supervisor and supervision is received through the assigned Police Department Supervisor/Park Ranger Supervisor. 

Tasks include: interacts pleasantly with residents, customers and the general public; Politely communicates and conveys information to visitors utilizing each facility. Enforces the Township’s Ordinance (No. 115-1) governing parks and playgrounds, defusing situations that could be potential problems, aiding residents, and keeping property damage to a minimum. Responsible for keeping up-to-date information on all matters pertaining to the parks; enforcing all existing policies and procedures; make recommendations to the supervisor concerning policies and procedures. Provide verbal and in written reports on all criminal mischief, accidents, and violations of Township ordinances occurring within the parks; At the start of each shift, must pass inspection by the on-duty Park Ranger Supervisor; pick up their vehicle, complete the necessary automobile operational forms, and check out their communication system before going on patrol; notify the Abington Police Department Records and Communication Office which vehicle they are using and what hours they are working. Will be responsible for turning on and turning off all the necessary lights at Park facilities, as well as control all permits for groups in excess of 25 persons. Assist with other duties as required. Attends meetings and training as required. 


Part-Time Laborer ($18/hour)

The primary purpose of this position is to perform manual labor in the maintenance of Township facilities such as roads, buildings, and sewers, which allows the Public Works Department to provide residents and business owners quality service while complying with the ordinances and other laws of the Township and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Collects municipal waste and recyclable materials from residences and businesses and deposits refuse/recyclables at transfer station. 

Tasks include: Interacts pleasantly with residents, customers and the general public; operates hand tools (shovel, rake, pick, etc.) and power tools (jackhammer, chain saw, string trimmer, whacker, lawn mower, etc.); performs street maintenance and repair; fills potholes with cold patch; prepares road base; resurfaces streets with asphalt; rakes stone and asphalt; rebuilds curbs, manhole covers, and storm water inlets with concrete; mixes concrete; loads and unloads materials from truck; picks up bags of leaves from Township residences; rakes leaves; moves office furniture and supplies; trims and removes trees and vegetation; clears debris from storm sewer inlets and creeks; removes debris from road shoulder. Paints Township buildings, structures, and equipment; paints crosswalk and stop lines on street intersections; washes and services trucks with water, gas, and oil; installs and erects street signs, or guard rails; replaces bulbs in traffic signals; responds to highway emergencies and disperses sand or absorbent materials on spills. Interacts with department employees, the public, governmental, and Township officials in a courteous and professional manner at all times; other related duties as necessary to support the Public Works Department and Refuse Division.
