A 45-year-old Abington man has been sentenced to state prison after admitting to exchanging child pornography with another man via a social media app, according to a report.

Daniel Gallagher, of the 1800 block of Ambler Road, will serve 2 to 4 years in a state correctional facility, followed by 18 years of probation, after pleading guilty in Montgomery County Court to charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, along with conspiracy. In total, Gallagher will remain under court supervision for 22 years.

The case drew attention not only for its disturbing details, but also for its ties to both Abington Township and Gilbertsville, where Gallagher’s co-conspirator, Keith A. Curtis, 64, resides.

Montgomery County Judge Wendy G. Rothstein also ordered Gallagher to have no contact with minors, comply with psychosexual treatment recommendations, and register as a sex offender for 25 years under Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Authorities say Gallagher used the Discord messaging platform to exchange explicit images and engage in sexually explicit conversations with Curtis. Curtis pleaded guilty in June and is now serving an 8 to 16-year prison sentence.

The investigation began in January 2024 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children flagged a disturbing image uploaded to Discord, depicting a young child being sexually abused. The image was traced to Curtis’ home, where investigators seized electronic devices containing more than 11,000 files of child sexual abuse material.

Further investigation linked Gallagher to the case through images he sent to Curtis, involving girls as young as 3 years old.
