UPDATE: police release details about man who brandished gun, threatened staff at community pool

Makai Upshaw-Ivory, 26 of Elkins Park, is charged with multiple misdemeanor and felony offenses

The Abington Police Department has released new details regarding a suspect who brandished a gun and threatened staff at a community pool Sunday. 

According to police, the suspect had been arguing with his children at Penbryn Pool, located at 200 Houston Avenue, inside the pool locker room. As the suspect began walking toward the parking lot to leave, a bystander attempted to intervene to calm the suspect down. 

The suspect then allegedly became agitated, retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, and threatened pool staff and members of the public before fleeing in a vehicle.  

Through investigation, the suspect was identified as 26-year-old Makai Upshaw-Ivory of Elkins Park. 

Upshaw-Ivory is charged with multiple misdemeanor and felony offenses, including Terroristic Threats, Persons not to Possess Firearms, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment, among other charges.

On Monday, Aug. 18, Upshaw-Ivory turned himself into the Abington Township Police Department. He was processed and is currently awaiting arraignment.
