On Sunday, Aug. 17, the Abington Police Department responded to an incident at Penbryn Pool, located at 200 Houston Avenue, in the Glenside section of the township, involving a guest and facility staff.
According to initial reports, an individual displayed a firearm and issued threats toward staff members during the encounter.
Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety, the decision was made to temporarily close the pool. Officers arrived promptly on scene, and the situation was quickly contained without any reported injuries.
The Abington Police Department wishes to reassure the community that this appears to be an isolated incident. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the public.
A full investigation is currently underway. Detectives are working to gather all relevant information, interview witnesses, and determine the circumstances that led to the incident. Further updates will be provided as more details become available.
