A Philadelphia man with five prior retail theft convictions is now facing a third degree felony charge stemming from an incident at Marshall’s in Willow Grove, according to police.

On Aug. 7 around 5:52 p.m., a police officer from the Upper Moreland Police Department responded to Marshall’s, located at 114 Park Avenue, after a security guard from the store reported a possible theft.

According to documents, the security guard told police that a black male wearing black t-shirt was concealing items in both a reusable bag and a trash bag.

When police arrived, the male, later identified as Tyrell Young, 40, was still in the store. The security guard identified Young to police as Young proceeded to exit the store passing all points of sale.

Police made contact with Young, who was in possession of a reusable bag, according to police.

The bag was seized and contained:

  • Clothes (160.87)
  • Cologne (19.99, recovered from Young’s right front pocket)
  • Furnishings (49.98)

The total value of the items was $230.84.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 22, 2025, at 9:45 a.m. in front of Judge Thomas P. Murt.
