The Abington Police Department, in partnership with Citizens and Police Together (C.A.P.T.) and the Joint Town Watch Council, presents the 24th Annual Pre-Night Out — a community tradition that brings neighbors, families, and local heroes together for a memorable summer night.

Set in a festive block party atmosphere, this event welcomes thousands of attendees from across the township who come to connect, celebrate, and explore. From strolling through interactive displays and informational booths to sampling delicious local food, there’s something for everyone — kids, teens, parents, and grandparents alike.

The fun begins Monday at 5 p.m. at the Abington Town Center (Target parking lot at Old York & London roads) and will run until 9 p.m. The event is admission free.

"There’s a lot of police cars, fire trucks, search and rescue, we bring out our big trucks and let the kids go in and out of it,” said Abington Lt. Kevin Magee, Division Commander, Detectives. “We have vendors out there for food, some Irish dancers, and we give out some community service awards.”

This year’s Pre-Night Out will once again support the Abington D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program, which helps educate and empower youth to make safe and healthy choices.

“It’s tough to know what resources are available and to who and how to get in contact with certain people. It gives people a chance to collaborate with other people in the community. It gives residents an opportunity to meet those people. So many good things about it. There are thousands of people that attend this thing. You see a lot of your neighbors out there.

“We do it every year,” Magee added. “It’s such a great event. The proceeds help to fund organizations here, and we do a lot of good things with those organizations.”

What to Expect

Crime Prevention & Safety Demonstrations from State, County, and Local law enforcement agencies — including live demos, equipment tours, and first responder meet-and-greets.

A wide variety of community and local business booths, offering helpful information, resources, and interactive activities.

Tasty food options and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages to keep you fueled throughout the evening.

Fun giveaways for the kids, plus a packed lineup of live entertainment, including music, performers, and games.

Face painting, crafts, and plenty of surprises that will keep the little ones smiling.

Whether you’re a long-time resident or new to the neighborhood, this is your chance to come together with the people who make Abington a great place to live — including those who protect and serve it every day.

“It’s been packed (in year’s past) and it will be packed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.,” Magee said. “A couple thousand people come and show up every year.”
