Robert Dean, 48, of the 6800 block of N. 7th Street in Philadelphia, faces a felony charge of retail theft stemming from an incident at the Willow Grove Mall, according to police.
On Wednesday, April 9, at 5:02 p.m., the Abington Police Department responded to Nordstrom Rack, 2500 Moreland Road, for a retail theft in custody.
Police spoke with a store employee, who stated that he observed a male, later identified as Dean, steal multiple items.
According to the employee, he watched Dean select items from the store, put them in a concealed bag, and then walk out of the store without paying for the items, passing all points of sale. The employee then contacted Dean outside of the store and took Dean into custody, according to police
The items recovered include two pairs of sneakers totaling $105.94, which was recovered and returned to the store, according to police.
Dean utilized a “booster bag” to conceal the items, which is a bag lined in aluminum to it wouldn’t be detected by the store’s security system.
A check of Dean’s criminal history revealed 14 prior retail theft convictions.
Dean was transported back to the Abington Police Station, where police found seven packets of Suboxone, a Schedule III controlled substance which Dean did not have a prescription for.
