Montgomery County’s Parks, Trails, and Historic Sites Department invites the public to participate in an open house discussion about the new master plan for Lorimer Park, the County’s oldest park.

Located in Abington Township, Lorimer Park spans 230 acres and has served the community since 1938. The park is noted for its variety of landscapes and features, including forested areas, open meadows, and two creeks—the Pennypack Creek and Harpers Run. The introduction of the Pennypack Trail in 2009, a multi-use trail on SEPTA's former Fox Chase-Newtown line, has increased public interest in the use of the park and the desire to see strategic improvements that maintain its unique ecological character and community recreational value.

Montgomery County invites the community to a public Open House to review and provide feedback on draft recommendations for the park on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rydal East Elementary School, 1160 Huntingdon Pike, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.

This Open House will include a series of exhibits and interactive activities for all ages. Attendees will be able to:

Review recommendations for improvements to trails, signage, ecology, and facilities, developed based on public input and investigations into existing site conditions;

Provide feedback on recommended improvements for designs for the core of the park, including the parking lot, park entrances, ADA accessibility, improved park facilities, and connections to the Pennypack Trail; and

Participate in shaping the improvement recommendations for the park and to contribute their opinions and direction for the park’s improvement.

The master plan is expected to be completed in early summer 2025 and is intended to be a strategic roadmap for the implementation of recommended improvements.

Residents can also review ongoing recommendations at the County’s website at https://www.montgomerycountypa.gov/4576/Lorimer-Park-Master-Plan or by contacting John Mandracchia, Region 3 Manager, via email at [email protected] or phone at (215) 947-3477.
