The GIANT Company team members and local community leaders will be on hand to celebrate the opening of the new supermarket in Jenkintown.

On Friday, April 4, GIANT will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and brief remarks from the company starting at 7:40 a.m. at the 93 York Road location.

As part of The GIANT Company’s commitment to making a difference in the local communities it serves, the Jenkintown store is celebrating its opening by donating a total of $10,000 to six community organizations who are making a difference and building healthier communities.

The new 50,000 square foot store will operate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week and add more than 100 full- and part-time jobs to the local community.

“While we have had a presence in Montgomery County for decades, this marks the first GIANT in Jenkintown,” said John Ruane, president of The GIANT Company. “Customers can expect the freshness, value and quality that GIANT is known for, combined with brand new offerings, increased product variety, and plenty of fresh ideas no matter what type of meal or celebration they are shopping for.”

As part of the celebration, the first 200 customers will receive a GIANT reusable shopping bag filled with product samples and other grand opening savings.

Dave Flanigan, a 32-year grocery veteran, has been appointed store manager of the newest GIANT.

“No matter how customers choose to shop with us, the entire store team is excited to bring the GIANT shopping experience to the Jenkintown community,” said Flanigan, Jenkintown GIANT store manager. “We have a lot of variety throughout the store to serve the grocery needs of our neighbors, including a strong focus on natural and organics, Kosher products, and plenty of grab-and-go options.”

The Jenkintown location will be similar to GIANT’s signature departments, including a large, market-feel produce department with dedicated space for organics, meat and seafood, service deli with pre-sliced meats and cheeses, dairy, bakery, full-service floral, a separate healthy, natural and organic section including both fresh and frozen products, and a large beer and wine area featuring an assortment of wine slushies and ready-to-drink cocktails.

The new store also offers a large Kosher product selection, including fresh meat, dairy, and frozen products. The Jenkintown store features a hot food bar,, which includes smoked and barbeque meats, pre-pack salad offerings in the deli, specialty cheese case, an in-store sushi chef, and a full-service Starbucks coffee kiosk.

The Jenkintown store will also offer GIANT Direct. Designed to serve customers when and how they want to shop, GIANT Direct gives busy families the opportunity to order their groceries online for easy curbside pick-up at giantdirect.com.
