The Borough of Rockledge was sad to announce that one of its own employees would be stepping down. As of Friday, Sept. 14, Police Chief John Gallagher has resigned from his role. The Borough of Rockledge Police Department will be without its leader.

Borough Manager Bryan J. Poster announced the resignation on the Borough’s Facebook page.

“Rockledge Borough Council President, Frank Enderle received, with sincere regret, the resignation of its Police Chief, John Gallagher. Chief Gallagher joined the Borough in August 2022,” said Poster in the announcement. “His extensive background and managerial level experience in community policing enabled the Borough to continue with its commitment to new ideas and professionalism.”

Poster said that the chief has been a wonderful addition to the community with his service over the past two years.

“During his tenure, he has provided valuable new ideas and continued many programs previously implemented that have and will continue to benefit the Rockledge community,” said Poster. “Some of Chief Gallagher’s strategic achievements and continuation of current programs include increasing bus stop patrols, increasing police visibility by strengthening foot patrols and house checks, and had an open-door policy to Rockledge residents, making sure that each of them is heard.”

The borough manager said that there is an experienced and knowledgeable staff that will remain after Gallagher’s departure.

“He leaves a team with many years of experience in place and the department in an excellent position for future growth,” said Poster.

Gallagher did not elaborate where he’d be heading next, but the borough’s staff wished him well.

“We are uncertain of the Chief’s future endeavors but wish him well,” Poster said. “His passion and commitment to our community as the Rockledge Police Department’s Chief will be sincerely missed.”

Poster said that the entire council offered best wishes for Gallagher moving forward.

“Frank Enderle, President of the Rockledge Borough Council on behalf of the rest of council, wish to express their appreciation to Chief Gallagher and his contribution to the Borough, and wish him every success for his future,” Poster said. “The Borough will now commence the process of locating and appointing a new Chief for the Police Department.”

The department will aim to follow in Gallagher’s advice, which was posted on the force’s website.

“Officers are expected to conduct themselves with honor, integrity, and professionalism at all times in keeping with our mission to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and ordinances of the Borough of Rockledge, while partnering with surrounding police agencies to safeguard the freedoms and God-given equal rights of the citizens whom we proudly serve,” said Gallagher.
