A Bucks County traffic stop leads to the seizure of an “AK-style” gun, according to police.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, the Bensalem Township Police Department reported that a darkly colored Mazda was traveling south on Hulmeville Road near Byberry Road in the township. As the windows were heavily tinted, according to reports, and the driver committed a traffic violation, coming close to causing a crash with another vehicle, police initiated a traffic stop on Park Avenue.

According to a press release by police, an officer stood at the rear of the vehicle when he directed the driver, Victor Miles, 33, of Flourtown, to roll down his windows, as he could not see inside the car given the tint. Miles refused, police said, and instead “attempted to get the officer to approach the driver’s side window several times.”

Police said the officer was able to see from the passenger’s side that Miles was the only occupant inside the car. The officer, reports said, then “observed what appeared to be an AK-style handgun on the front passenger seat of the vehicle, within reach of Miles.”

According to reports, police ordered Miles out of the vehicle, though he continued to refuse commands, while “occasionally reaching towards the passenger seat where the AK-style handgun was located.”

“Officers believed that he was contemplating grabbing the gun before exiting the vehicle,” said the department’s release.

Police said that after “tense negotiations,” Miles did exit the vehicle unarmed and was taken into custody. The gun, according to reports, had an “obliterated serial number” and was loaded. Police said that the “banana-style magazine” was loaded, as well as one round in the chamber of the gun.

“The gun was in a condition that it was ready to fire,” said the release.

Bensalem Township Police Department reported that officers had the vehicle towed and obtained a search warrant to continue an investigation. Police said that they recovered from the car the following:

  • The AK-style handgun with obliterated serial number
  • A second AR-15-style rifle in the trunk
  • Numerous loaded firearm magazines for different types of weapons
  • Shotgun rounds
  • A black “balaclava-style” mask
  • A pair of gloves
  • A black hooded sweatshirt with black tape covering white wording on its front
  • Multiple containers of marijuana
  • Drug paraphernalia

Police said Miles was charged with felony possession of a firearm with an altered manufacturer’s number, altering or obliterating marks of identification, and vehicle code offenses including improper sun screening and vehicle turning left.

Miles was arraigned by Magisterial District Justice Kevin Wanger and was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional jail on 10% of a $300,000 bail. He is due in court before Judge Wanger on Nov. 6 at 9 a.m., according to court documents.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
