Abington Township Police Department was recently called to the T.J. Maxx store in the township to assist in a retail theft in progress, reports said.
On Sept. 23, around 1:03 p.m., officers responded to the store at 1495 Old York Road, in Abington, for the call of a theft. A Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) there told police that two females had stolen clothing and then left in a Nissan Altima vehicle. He provided the license plate to police, reports said.
One suspect, Elisha Monea Johnson, 29, of the 200 block of Manatawny St., in Pottstown, was identified by police, after viewing the woman and another female suspect selecting various coats and children’s clothes and stacking them onto a shopping cart, said reports. The two women stole clothing valued at $402.86, police said, by taking the merchandise from the store, in their arms, via the front door.
According to reports, Johnson passed all points of sale without attempting to pay for merchandise “clearly marked for sale.” Johnson, police said, had two previous convictions for retail theft. Due to that criminal history and her “lack of response to multiple attempts to contact her by phone,” police said that she would be charged with four felonies.
Johnson is facing four felony charges, including retail theft by taking of merchandise, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit retail theft by taking of merchandise, and conspiracy to receive stolen property.
Johnson is due in court on Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge John D. Kessler. She was released on an unsecured $5,000 bail until her court date.
