Police have taken cocaine, guns, and recovered a stolen vehicle off of the streets during a traffic stop on Oct. 13, according to reports.
An Abington Police officer was on traffic patrol around 11:04 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 when he saw a grey Honda sedan traveling north on Old York Road in Abington, reports said. He checked the vehicle’s registration and discovered the car as reported stolen out of Philadelphia, police said.
Police initiated a traffic stop on the road near its intersection with Wheatsheaf Lane, reports said. Prior to approaching the vehicle, police said that it appeared that the driver and passenger were moving about the car in a way to possibly conceal weapons or evidence. The front seat passenger of the car was identified as Rolando Castillo Jr., 28, of the 100 block of West Louden Street, who police said had a warrant out of Philadelphia for his arrest. He was taken into custody, according to reports.
While being searched, police said that they found a “small yellow baggie containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine” on his person. He also had $1,840 in cash as well as a loaded Glock 45 9mm firearm with one round loaded into the chamber, concealed on his person, reports said.
During the investigation, police said that Castillo Jr. was found to also be in possession of an AR-style pistol, loaded with one round in the chamber, as well as a magazine for the gun with 91 rounds of ammunition loaded into it. Reports stated police also found a black, disposable shopping bag containing a clear, plastic Ziplock bag with around four ounces of suspected cocaine inside, as well as 32 empty small yellow baggies, identical to the single one found on Castillo Jr.’s person, as well as a Visa card with Castillo Jr.’s name on it “that appeared to have been used to cut and portion cocaine for sale.”
Castillo Jr. is charged with felony counts of firearms not to be carried without a license, as well as the manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver. He faces misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and a fugitive person not to possess or use firearms.
Castillo Jr. is being held in Montgomery County Jail unable to post a $50,000 monetary bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge John D. Kessler.
