A woman is facing felony charges after she punched and kicked officers during an incident in Roslyn on Monday, police said.
The Abington Township Police Department was dispatched on Nov. 18 around 1:34 a.m. to the area of the 1400 block of Arnold Avenue in the Roslyn section of the township for an illegally parked car. Once on scene, police were flagged by residents of a nearby home to assist with “what appeared to be a domestic disturbance,” said the police criminal complaint.
Once there, police found Zoie Hannibal, 23, of the 1300 block of Kennedy Street in Philadelphia, in the front yard of the home, said police reports. Hannibal admitted to driving the vehicle and told police she had been drinking alcohol, police said.
Police tried to speak to those inside the residence, but while doing so, Hannibal attempted to enter the home to confront the occupants, said the complaint. Officers intervened to stop her from entering the residence, but Hannibal then swung a closed first and struck one responding police officer in his lower arm, said police. Police said they then tried to detain Hannibal with handcuffs, but she resisted arrest.
According to the complaint, once Hannibal was able to be placed in cuffs, she was placed in the backseat of a patrol car. There, police said, she was able to free her wrists. As police removed Hannibal from the car, she kicked the same officer in the legs.
Police said that Hannibal was taken to Holy Redeemer Hospital for chemical testing, which she agreed to around 2:23 a.m. Results remain pending at this time.
Hannibal is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault with an attempt to cause serious bodily injury to a designated official, as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, DUI, and a summary offense of harassment.
Hannibal is released on a bond signature. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John D. Kessler on Dec. 5 at 10:45 a.m.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
