If you’ve ever needed an electrical charging station boost, and happen to coast into the Willow Grove Park Mall, chances are you’ve encountered some less than stellar options to get you out a bind. Thankfully, those broken and non-operational charges will soon be replaced with new, reliable chargers as funding is made available across the state.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the first round of its funding program for Electric Vehicles Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator (EVC-RAA) recently, and one of the lucky recipients will be the Mall’s Electrify America charging stations.
PennDOT reportedly reviewed policies across the state to determine areas in the most need. In total, three new charging stations will be installed at the PREIT-owned Willow Grove Park, located at 2500 W. Moreland Drive in Willow Grove.
Eligible parties were able to submit proposals for updated, repaired, or replaced units in a process that was started in May 2024, as funding was released. An eGrants system opened online in July, with a deadline to submit by Aug. 14 at 5 p.m.
Now that announcements have been reviewed and awarded, the state must work through the “NEPA process” prior to December 2024 agreement executions. Willow Grove Park was one of 174 eligible charging stations in the state to benefit from the program.
