The owner of Terp Boys reported the theft to police after the man failed to return the products or money for them.
Police say that an employee at a popular Huntingdon Valley dispensary recently made off with over $9,000 in flower, refusing to return it nor pay for it.
According to police reports, the owner of Terp Boys, located on County Line Road in Huntingdon Valley, walked into the Lower Moreland Police station on Oct. 15 to report a crime. The owner said that, while he was away on vacation and his staff was on a lunch break, one employee, Brandon Tyree Gibson, 34, of the 7700 block of Temple Road in Philadelphia, “stayed in the shop area” and did not take lunch.
Police said that when staff returned from lunch, Gibson left the area and products were missing. The owner reported that ten, 1.1-pound bags of “ZD Ventures LLC hemp CBD flower,” and an additional one-pound bag of “Terp Boys hemp flowers” were missing from the business. According to an invoice the owner provided to police, the total value of the missing product was approximately $9,500.
According to the police criminal complaint, the dispensary’s owner attempted to reach Gibson via text on Sept. 26 and 27, getting no response. The owner said Gibson blocked his phone, and he then attempted to reach Gibson through his girlfriend’s number, police said. The owner told police he “offered him an ultimatum” to either return he product to the store or pay $12,000. He said if neither were done, he would report the issue to the police.
At that time, police said, Gibson told the owner he would pay the money by Oct. 4. He also stated, via text, police said, “U ain’t getting the flower back.” The criminal complaint stated that “throughout the text conversation, Gibson reported he was already in the process of selling the product and would rather pay [the owner] what he owed him.”
The owner told police Gibson did not bring money to him on the agreed-upon date, and instead “requested more time to get all of the money.” Gibson reportedly made “several claims as to why he could not bring the money,” said police reports.
Police attempted to reach Gibson by phone on Oct. 18, at 2:21 p.m., and Gibson accepted the call, but ended seconds after police identified themselves.
Gibson is facing a felony charge of theft by unlawful taking of moveable property. He is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Thomas P. Murt.
